In a significant development, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has officially confirmed for the first time the within Russia’s Belgorod region.

This announcement came during his evening address on April 7, marking a turning point in Ukraine’s strategy to defend its eastern borders and project strength beyond them.

Zelenskyy noted that the 225th Assault Regiment, a battle-hardened unit formed in March 2022, is currently conducting operations on Russian soil. Initially part of Kharkiv’s territorial defense, the unit has evolved into an independent assault regiment under Ukraine’s Ground Forces. Its transition reflects not only growing operational experience but also Ukraine’s strategic shift toward proactive defense.

“War must return to where it came from,” Zelenskyy stated. “Our goal remains clear: to defend our land and protect the people of Sumy and Kharkiv regions from the occupiers.”

The president emphasized that operations in Russia’s border regions, including Belgorod and Kursk, have helped ease pressure on key Ukrainian front lines, particularly in Donetsk.

Ukrainian forces are actively targeting Russian logistics and equipment across these areas, aiming to destabilize enemy supply chains and reduce their capacity for offensive actions.

Highlighting the courage of Ukrainian soldiers, Zelenskyy praised the 225th Regiment for its determination and discipline.

“I’m proud of every one of you fighting for Ukraine,” he said, calling for continued support for the armed forces and domestic arms production.

As Ukraine’s military doctrine evolves, Zelenskyy’s message is clear: Ukraine will not passively wait for attacks. Instead, it will assert its right to strike back—firmly, lawfully, and with growing strength.
