Telmiko company calls power outage a “major accident”.
Georgians, amid power outages outside the parliament building, where the lights remained on, held a rally in memory of those killed during the April 9, 1989 rally.
A massive blackout occurred in Georgia on the night of April 9. Power went out in parts of Tbilisi, Mtskheta, Gori, Batumi, Poti, Borjomi, Kutaisi, Zugdidi and eight other cities. This was reported by the Georgian TV channel Mtavari.
The power distribution company Telmiko called the power outage a “major accident”.
“Gradually, throughout the night, power will be provided to all subscribers,” they promised.
Telegram channel Baza reported that after the power was restored, the lights in the houses “flickered” and periodically went out again.
Against the backdrop of the power outage near the parliament building on Rustaveli Avenue in Tbilisi, an action was held in memory of those killed during the dispersal of a rally on the night of April 9, 1989. Then the Soviet army used poisonous substances, tear gas, tanks, firearms and sapper shovels against the protesters. Later, the event began to be called the “night of sapper shovels”.
During the action, the lights in the parliament did not go out until five in the morning, reports the telegram channel Tbilisi life, after which the lights went out for several minutes. At the same time, those present took an oath to fight for the independence of Georgia and the freedom of political prisoners.
